English, end to end. Ingredient explanations, the reason behind every flag and the score itself are written in English. There is no French version.
A ban and a limit are not the same thing. A banned ingredient is a finding whatever the dose. An ingredient permitted up to a limit is scrutiny, because the label cannot show the level used. An ingredient whose limit the label proves through ingredient order is not scored at all. Every point value is at /methodology.
Only regulators in the score. EU CosIng, Regulation 1223/2009, the ECHA endocrine disruptor assessments, California AB 2762, AB 2771 and AB 496, and Prop 65. No community grading is mixed in.

- How does Luminelle differ from INCI Beauty?
- INCI Beauty is a French cosmetics analyser with a score out of 20, a web version and a large community catalogue. Luminelle is English-only, scores by what the regulator entry says for the product type, publishes every point of the method, and adds a daily skin selfie, cycle phase, meals and patterns over time.
- Is Luminelle free?
- Barcode scans are free and unlimited, with an account. Photo-based scans, including a photo of an ingredient list, are limited to five a day on the free tier. Luminelle Pro removes that limit and adds Patterns, Shelf Check and Ask Luminelle.
- How does Luminelle's scoring work?
- Every flagged ingredient is classified as a finding, scrutiny, or listed-but-not-scored by what the regulator's entry says for this kind of product. A ban is a finding whatever the dose; a concentration limit is scrutiny; a limit the label proves through ingredient order is not scored. The full method, with every point value, is public.
- How big is Luminelle's catalogue?
- Smaller than INCI Beauty's. It is built from open product databases plus products people submit, and it is strongest on brands sold in the EU and US. When a barcode is not found, a photo of the ingredient list scores the product anyway.
- Is Luminelle available in French?
- No. Luminelle is English-only. Other languages are on the roadmap but not scheduled.
- I'm pregnant. How does Luminelle help?
- Set your life stage to pregnancy or breastfeeding and every product you scan is checked against an avoid-list for that stage. The score itself is not changed; the avoided ingredients are called out on the product.
- I live in California. Does Luminelle cover AB 2762 and Prop 65?
- Yes. AB 2762 and AB 2771 are scored as bans, AB 496 as an upcoming ban until it takes effect, and Prop 65 listings are scrutiny. Each flag names the bill behind it.
